Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Chennai, was established in the year 2016 under the auspices of the Salesians of Don Bosco, an internationally reputed educational and missionary organization dedicated to the holistic formation of young people, especially the marginalized. Rooted in a rich legacy of value-based education, the institution was founded with a clear vision: to provide quality higher education that integrates intellectual rigor, creative expression, and ethical grounding.
The College commenced its academic journey with a modest yet promising beginning, enrolling 54 students in three undergraduate programmes—B.Com. (General), B.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship), and B.Sc. Visual Communication. Despite its compact initial intake, the institution demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and student-centred learning, laying a firm foundation for its subsequent growth and development.
From its inception, the College has positioned itself as a vibrant centre of higher learning in the disciplines of communication, art and design, commerce, and management. It seeks not merely to impart knowledge, but to foster critical thinking, creativity, and professional competence among students. The institution strives to shape individuals who are intellectually empowered, socially responsible, and ethically grounded—capable of becoming both discerning consumers and innovative contributors in an increasingly complex and media-driven world.
Central to the identity and functioning of the College is the Salesian Preventive System, the distinctive pedagogical approach developed by Saint John Bosco in 19th-century Turin. This system is founded on the enduring principles of Reason, Religion, and Loving-Kindness, and emphasizes a preventive, rather than punitive, approach to education. It promotes a climate of trust, respect, and accompaniment, wherein educators engage with students in a spirit of empathy and guidance, fostering not only academic success but also moral and emotional maturity.
The educational philosophy of Don Bosco was influenced by earlier humanistic traditions represented by figures such as Saint Philip Neri and Saint Francis de Sales. Their emphasis on compassion, personal engagement, and the dignity of the individual continues to resonate in the institutional ethos of the College.
In response to the evolving demands of higher education and the professional landscape, the College has steadily expanded its academic portfolio. It currently offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraudate programmes in two shifts:
| Shift - I | Shift - II |

These programmes are designed to be both academically rigorous and industry-relevant, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for successful careers and meaningful societal engagement.
Over the years, Don Bosco Arts and Science College has grown into a dynamic academic community characterized by its commitment to excellence, innovation, and holistic education. While remaining faithful to its founding vision and Salesian heritage, the College continues to adapt to contemporary educational needs, fostering an environment that nurtures creativity, critical inquiry, and lifelong learning.
